1,612 Words

A college student volunteers working with alcoholics
and drug users at a shelter, where he meets
Sebastian Melmoth, through some discussion, it
is discovered that Sebastian is, in fact, the
famous author Richard Douglas; back in the '50s, in
his early 20s, before he became famous, he had sex
with an underage boy of 16, his career and reputation
grew in the '60s as his counter-culture approach
to literature struck a chord with the teenagers of
the decade; when the underage allegation started
to emerge, his sexuality, writing, and associates were
put on trial; found guilty on trumped-up charges, he
spent five years in prison; his career and life had
never rebounded; he talks of a novel he's been writing
for 30 years but can't be published, he asks the
college student to be his nom de plume; the
student accepts, can a crime that is 65 years old
be eventually forgiven?
