The occasion only happens twice a year, thus the name Equinox. It is a security protocol for a large company called Technocrat Deliverables, in which data from the previous two quarters is archived and upgrades are installed. Yeah, what's the big deal, huh? Francis Peterson has been let go in the last two quarters. He was one of ten individuals accused of selling business secrets to the competition. And after he was let go, his credentials stayed on the server; it will be archived on the Equinox. The curious thing is that Francis never did anything at all; he signed into his corporate account while visiting his mother in a large apartment complex. Rodney Simmons had only just stolen the Internet from the same router. Rodney used the knowledge to hack a large company and to obtain and sell concepts, schematics, and theoretical ideas. Seeing that his golden goose was about to be locked away, Rodney was determined to keep access. The project was easy and included three people, Loyd Jennings, "Key Keeper," Barbara Mitchell, "Secretary," and Bob Jones, "Boss." First, Rodney launches a phishing scam, sends an email from bob.jones24@gmail.com telling Barbara he's locked out of his corporate inbox, so he's sending this email from his personal account. The email indicates that the following files need to be uploaded to the following server, board.docs.technocrat.com. The files are already on the server, but they look official and believable, so it's conceivable that Barbara wouldn't give it a second thought because, according to Bob's wife's Facebook page, they're in Aruba for ten days. The real aim is to get Barbara to log into the server connected to Rodney's replica. Once he has her credentials, he can now claim to be her digitally. Barbara controls Loyd's schedule; if she can get Loyd away from server cases on Equinox's day, there should be enough time for Rodney to slip into Loyd's office, grab the keys to the server case and add a full-access dummy employee. He's going to call the new account server maintenance so it won't be removed. It's almost too easy; he has all the information he needs, surveillance cameras, Barbara's email, employee evaluations, and key card access. And boy, is he going to need it all to pull this off before the Equinox is complete.
