When a compulsive liar starts a new job, he creates a tragic backstory that makes it harder for management to let him go once they realize he lied through his resume and interview. He's done it before, and it works like a charm because people think of his story as it is told to them, file it in their hippocampus, and then go back to thinking about their own lives, what others think about them, and how they can network to win allies within an office filled with political entanglements. Nonetheless, he did not anticipate, Laura. Being a true altruist, she can't get his story out of her mind, wanting to help in any way. As the hole deepens, the liar needs to make more of the deception a reality, recruit actors, fake doctor appointments, and even counterfeit gravestones. The closer she gets, the higher the risk he'll be caught; but he can't help himself; her altruism is captivating, he's never met a person who cares so deeply, and he's falling in love. As a way out, it comes down to his work or his lover; either way, the truth will be exposed. Is the truth going to set him free or ruin everything he created with Laura? Perhaps the best partnership he's ever known was over before it ever began.
